The Different Kinds of Dermatitis on Face and Their Treatments

Dermatitis on face basically refers to a condition wherein a person’s facial skin becomes scaly and red.

Naturally, nobody enjoys having a scaly and red face – and it gets even worse if the scales turn into blisters and ooze out fluids.

The Different Kinds

Contact Dermatitis

Believe it or not, plants can be blamed for this kind of dermatitis on face, for example when people get in contact with poison sumac, poison ivy or poison oak. However, some chemicals found in detergents and soaps, nail polish remover, synthetic fibers, antiperspirants and formaldehyde-filled materials can bring this infection about, as well. In fact, people who wear unwashed clothes, rubber clothes, cosmetics or plated jewelry might end up with contact dermatitis on face, too. Overall, contact dermatitis brings about red and pink itchy rashes on the face.

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is usually caused by a combination of irritable and dry skin or a problem in the immune system. Some people who get atopic dermatitis may have a history of allergies in the family, too, though, like hay fever or asthma. The most common symptoms of this kind of dermatitis would be skin rashes and itchiness.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Since the face is full of sebaceous glands that secret oil for lubrication, yeasts might grow and cause seborrheic dermatitis on face. If the person who has this type of dermatitis happens to have a very strong immune system, it should be easy to battle. However, people with weak immune systems might have to deal with itching and irritating skin when they have this condition. Other symptoms of this kind of dermatitis would include greasy and flaky yellowish or white skin. A lot of the time, this condition is mistaken for sunburn. Fortunately, there are various remedies out there, though, so it shouldn’t be a problem for long.

The Different Treatments

Now that you know that the face can suffer from different kinds of dermatitis, you need to know that there are different kinds of treatments for them, too. The treatments will usually depend on several things, though, such as your age, the causes of your dermatitis, and your medical history. Some of the most common treatments for dermatitis on face would include basic lifestyle changes and medications. Some lifestyle changes might include avoiding allergen and irritant exposure and minimizing skin dryness. However, since products like chemicals, soaps, detergents, metals, weeds may cause facial dermatitis, you might have to start avoiding these things, too.
