Fascinating Facts About the Human Body

The human body is an incredibly complex and intricate system, one that still baffles doctors and researchers on a regular basis despite thousands of years of medical knowledge. Here are some snippets to get you thinking.

The body produces enough energy to make heat which could make water boil in less than an hour. However, our bodies use up many calories everyday just working at keeping us at the normal 98.6 degrees.

Lysozyme is an enzyme present in tears and mucus and it destroys the cell wall of some bacteria. But this is good news, because the enzyme lives in your eyes and throat and it kills harmful bacteria and reduces the risk of infection in those areas.

Researchers have found that if you are right handed then on average you will live 9 years longer than your left handed peers. It also seems that genetics do not have a role to play in this finding. Researchers say that it is because the world is geared up to right handed people so when left handed people use machinery and tools designed for right handed people then their chances of a mishap increase. The outcome is numerous injuries and fatalities every year.

It seems that biology has undermined the women’s desire for a slimmer body. It is said that the female body needs more fat to support its reproductive role and so resists any weight loss action more than a man’s body.
