A Healthy Diet with Raw Food

We all know the benefits of eating five portions of fruit and vegetable on a daily basis as part of a healthy balanced diet. If we avoid the food that makes us feel tired and bloated and join the gym we will feel better. Eating raw food is not boring and is sustainable and reliable in providing nourishment. And raw food is recognised by the body as a form of fuel and energy. Enzymes are extremely important in our well being. The three types of enzymes are:

  • Metabolic enzymes that help our bodies work efficiently
  • The digestive enzymes obviously help in digesting food
  • The enzymes that are contained in raw foods starts the digestion process of the food

Metabolic enzymes run all the organs and tissues in the body. Raw foods are high in natural enzymes and this helps to achieve better digestion.

A meal made from raw food can be prepared in a couple of minutes or you can make a more complex meal that will take longer. For most people they are surprised to realise the variety of foods available in a raw food diet. Buying a juicer, food processor, blender and dehydrator machine will enable you to consider more variety in your diet. The following is a list of foods to include in your raw food diet:

  • Dried fruit
  • Fresh fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Dehydrated, raw crackers and bread
  • Root vegetables
  • Smoothies
  • Nuts that have been soaked to make digestion easier and soak the larger seeds for easier digestion
  • Unpasteurised seed and nut milks
  • Root vegetables
  • Wild food

Most people change to a raw food diet in order to increase their energy levels. The food eaten on this type of diet is specifically designed for eating by humans and because of this it makes digesting the food so much easier. Should you eat the wrong type of foods in the wrong combination this can result in fatigue and reduced energy levels. And if the body becomes run down the immune system can become compromised. This damaging cycle can be avoided by following a natural diet and lifestyle. A raw food diet works alongside the body rather than working against it. A vegan diet would be considered to be a complete raw food diet. People who are vegans will not eat any food that has come from animals such as honey, eggs, dairy products and meat. Historically this food would not have been eaten by humans as it would have been very difficult to get this type of food. The wild fruits that would have been eaten may have contained insect matter and because of this we would follow a vegetarian diet rather than vegan. Nowadays most people choose to become vegan or a vegetarian because of health reasons or other reasons such as political, religious, ethical, cultural, aesthetic, social, environmental or economic. There are particular foods that are considered to be toxic by followers of this type of diet. And if the food listed below is removed from the diet the body will begin a detoxifying process.

  • Dairy products
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Sugar (refined)
  • Alcohol
  • Wheat
  • Unnatural additives and preservatives
  • Soft drinks (includes diet)
  • Tea and coffee
  • Heated fats
  • Legal and illegal drugs

These foods and drinks are thought to cause harm and damage to our body. Followers of a raw food diet believe eating these foods may lead to mental confusion, tiredness, depression, irritability and a broad range of diseases.
