The HCG Diet and What You Need to Know

The HCG Diet was first found some fifty years ago by Dr. Simeons when he worked with malnourished individuals in India. He found that many pregnant women in India who were underweight gave birth to otherwise healthy babies. He realized that these women were producing the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HGC) that was taking fat reserves from these women to supply an energy source for their unborn fetuses to keep the developing unborn child nourished. As he studied further, he realized that HCG could actually be a weight loss remedy for men and women in general.

It turns out that fat is stored in the body in different places for different reasons. Some fat is stored around organs for structural protection and insulation such as skin. Some forms of fat are stored throughout the body as a storage form of fat that is used as an energy reserve to run metabolic pathways when you’re short of glucose. Another form of fat is stored around the midriff areas including the waist, hips, thighs and buttocks. This area of fat is excess fat which has no real purpose other than it is unwanted.

Dr. Simeons discovered that fat stored around the waist, hips and thighs were for survival purposes and were only released after several months of starvation to avoid death. It turns out that this fat is also released during pregnancy. Interestingly, the well being of pregnant women that he studied in India deteriorated after birth due to the decline in HCG. Wouldn’t it be great if anyone could take HCG and get rid of the midriff bulge. Well, it turns out that you can and it is known as the HCG diet.

Dr. Simeons set up the HCG diet in 3 phases. The first phase involves building up fat reserves for a few days, the second phase varies from 23 to 40 days with a diet consisting of 500 calories of fruits, vegetables and protein, and the third phase is for maintenance where you can take in all you want but must stay away from starchy foods and sugar.

During phase 1 of the HCG diet, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin builds up and your system and initiates fat loss around your mid region which takes a couple of days. Phase 2 allows for fat to be released from the hip, waist and thigh areas for the next month to month and a half. Weight loss during this period averages about a pound per day and for some two pounds. Continue on phase 2 until you lose the weight you desire. During phase 3, stop taking HCG but remain on the 500 calorie diet for 2 days to allow the hormone to leave your system. That’s it, you’re done.

This procedure has been used by clinicians for a long time however, the hormone HCG was administered by injection by your physician. Needless to say, this was an expensive and time consuming process. The hormone HCG is now available to you without medical supervision and when used with the HCG diet can generate dramatic weight loss in a short period of time in the privacy of your own home.

The benefits of the HCG diet are many when compared to other fad diets. These include: lack of hunger pangs, loss of body fat not muscle, proper redistribution of fat, reduced sweet cravings, inexpensive and an easy to follow plan.

HCG products have been around a long time and have been approved by the FDA for fertility therapies and menstruation issues but has not been approved as a weight loss aid at this time but the FDA has determined it is safe for use. HCG is available without prescription. If you are interested in more information about the HCG diet, try reading Dr. Simeons’ book entitled “Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity”.
