Stay Aware of the HCG Diet Dangers

The HCG diet is becoming increasing popular with its promises of very fast weight loss. The number of convinced followers it has gained suggests that the diet, which in some cases says up to 30 pounds a month can be lost, is actually producing the results it claims too. Some are less convinced though reporting that there is HCG diet dangers that all users should be aware of. The diet involves injections or drops of the pregnancy hormone, hCG and an intake of only 500 calories a day. Many medical professional say that people are not being adequately informed as to the hCH diet dangers and heath risks and that the diet is in fact a scam. Peter Cohen, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School says of the diet “It’s reckless, irresponsible and completely irrational.” He goes on to say that it is possible to lose weight on the diet but that is down to the extremely low calorie intake required by the diet. Any results provided by the diet will not be long term not to mention the hCG diet dangers that can occur. HCG was approved by the U.S Food and Drug administration as a treatment for infertility in both men and women. However, it properties as a weight-loss supplement are dated back to 1950’s. It was discovered that if obese patients were given small but regular doses of the hormone, it aided in the loss of fat in stubborn areas such as the stomach, thighs and upper arms. It only worked however, when administered a long side a diet of near starvation. It is through these finding that the modern version of the diet has come about with supplement available for purchase online, in drug stores and in nutritional health stores.

Some of the HCG diet dangers that are currently known include headaches, blood clots, leg cramps, constipation, breast tenderness and even temporary hair thinning. There has been one case recently reported to the FDA of an HCG dieter that developed a pulmonary embolism. This is a blood clot in the lung, which can be fatal. These are proven side effects and HCG diet dangers, which continue to be kept quiet from the public and people doing the diet. It is thought to be that the HCG diet dangers only occur because of taking the hormone a long side a very low calorie intake diet. When HCG is taken as treatment for infertility these side effects do not occur.

HCG works by tricking your body into feeling full so that you do not feel hungry so often and can stick to just 500 calories a day. While this may successfully aid in weight loss, the 500 calories do not provide you with all the necessary vitamins and nutrients that your body requires to function properly. When you really think about it, it is not surprising that health problems and other HCG diet dangers can occur.

Additionally, this diet will not provide you with long-term weight loss, as it is simply a temporary quick fix option. A much healthier and more beneficial way of losing weight is through simply eating more healthy foods, decreasing portion size and doing some exercise. This way you can lose weight and get fit without exposing your body to the potential HCG diet dangers.
