Here are some Sore Throat Home Remedie

There are various sore throat home remedies which are effective if you are suffering from sore throat which has been caused by a virus.

Gargling with warm, salty water helps in reducing swelling and relieves discomfort and is one of many sore throat home remedies. At least once an hour gargle with 1 tsp of salt dissolved in 8 fl oz of warm water, and gargle more often if you have a postnasal drip to prevent any further irritation of the throat. Make sure you keep well hydrated by drinking tea or soup as hot drinks may help to reduce the effects of the inflammation.

Using a humidifier or vaporizer is another treatment in sore throat home remedies. Use in the bedroom as the cool or warm mist helps to soothe the air passages which are swollen and this will make you feel more comfortable. Avoid the room becoming too cold or damp. Should you not have a humidifier use a shallow pan and fill with water which will provide the moisture in the air through evaporation and make sure it is located in a safe place so that no accidents occur.

Avoid smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products and also be aware of the effects on your throat of second hand smoke. If you can, try to stop smoking altogether.

If you think stomach acid is the cause of your sore throat consider taking non prescription medication for heartburn.

Non prescription throat lozenges are effective in easing the symptoms of sore throats, treatments such as Sucrets Maximum Strength or Spec-T are effective. These are considered safe to take and one of the ingredients is a local anesthetic which numbs the throat and helps to soothe the pain. Cough drops can also be used as they may help to ease symptoms.

Sore throat home remedies include decongestants in the form of either oral or nasal sprays. These make breathing easier as they shrink the swollen mucous membranes in the nose and air is then able to pass freely. They also alleviate the symptoms of a runny nose or postnasal drip which are contributory factors of a sore throat.

Taking oral decongestants are more effective and provide longer relief but there may be more side effects. These are not always recommended for younger children or if you suffer from certain medical problems. Always check the label before you take them.

Should you use these medicines follow the directions very carefully on how much to take based on the age and sometimes weight. Some medicines which can be bought without a prescription are aspirin, acetaminophen, such as Tylenol, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Naproxen and Ibuprofen. Aspirin should not be given to anyone who is younger than 20 unless on the advice of the doctor.

Always follow the safety instructions when using non prescribed medicines. Follow the directions written on the box or bottle very carefully. Ensure that you take the recommended dose and if you have suffered an allergic reaction before to certain medicines avoid using. If you think you are pregnant or you are pregnant speak to your doctor before taking over the counter medication. If you are uncertain then before taking any non prescribed medicines speak with your pharmacist.

Things to be aware of when using sore throat home remedies are breathing difficulties developing, not able to drink enough fluid which causes dehydration, fever or rash developing and a constant sore throat remains. If the symptoms become more frequent and severe then contact the medical professionals.
