Great Supplements for Women’s Sexual Health

There are some natural extracts and remedies that can help improve your sexual health.

Great sexual health is not just about being able to enjoy a great sex life; it is also about reproduction, function, ability and enjoyment – and being able to experience all of these things in a way that improves the overall quality of life. For women sexual health is an integral part of life tied up as it is with her emotional and physical well-being. A healthy sexual relationship will help a woman to develop social and interactive skills by promoting positive feelings and experiences.

Factors affecting sexual health

Physical and emotional well being are both important factors in guaranteeing optimum sexual health for women, any woman not feeling at her best physically or mentally is unlikely to enjoy, or even desire, an active sex life. Unfortunately, any problems around sexual health are apt to have a negative effect on both a relationship and the woman’s self-esteem. It is, therefore, essential that all women do whatever they can to maintain good mental and physical health – the use of certain supplements has been shown to do just that. Good, specially formulated, dietary supplements will contribute to overall good health as well aid in overcoming any specific health issues.

Naturally does it.

The area of women’s sexual health is one that is the subject of much research and study, much of this ongoing research indicates the usefulness of many natural ingredients in maintaining women’s health – sexual or otherwise. It is important to remember, however, that the greatest benefit comes from using supplements wisely and to their full extent – not focussing on one or two ingredients. Choosing ingredients that will target whole body health is much more beneficial than choosing a supplement with a narrower target. Some of the ingredients, which should be part of any supplement, include -

  • Tribulus – is a traditional Chinese herb that raises progesterone levels and is often used in the treatment of infertility, low libido and even erectile dysfunction. Tribulus appears to dilate the arteries and so enhance sexual sensitivity.

  • Chaste Tree Berry has been found to be successful in alleviating the symptoms of both the menopause and the menstrual cycle – it has also proved effective in regulating the menstrual cycle

  • Damiana and Sarsaparilla – these supplements are renowned for increasing both sexual desire and energy, as well as being beneficial for the nervous system.

  • Dong Quai – Dong Quai has been found to be useful in treating the symptoms of menstruation, in restoring regularity and reducing blood loss. This supplement appears to increase oxygen supply to the blood. It is also useful in the treatment of menopause symptoms. The root of dong quai is another Chinese herbal remedy and is considered a woman only ginseng type supplement; it appears to have a balancing effect on female hormones.

  • Black Cohosh – is a Native American remedy with the active ingredients of aromatic acids and isoflavones that alleviate both menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms in women.

  • Wild Yam Extract – Wild Yam Extract is often used as a natural alternative to HRT – specifically to replace oestrogen. It has also been found to be extremely useful in the treatment of vaginal dryness and other menopausal symptoms as well as increasing energy and sexual stamina. Some claims indicate the wild yam extract may be useful in lowering the risk of breast or endometrial cancer – but these claims remain unproven.

  • Ginkgo Bioloba Extract – this is said to greatly improve blood circulation that in turn improves both sexual desire and function.

When considering the use of any dietary supplement it is always wise to seek the advice of your medical practitioner – much of the information surrounding supplements is often nothing more than anecdotal and the results of taking any or all of them are likely to differ greatly from individual to individual.
