Getting Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads can be unsightly and very difficult to get rid of, so keep reading for tips!

Blackheads are caused when skin pores become blocked by the build-up of oil and dead skin; this blockage then hardens and discolors into the blackhead which is visible to the naked eye – which is why so many people spend so much time getting rid of blackheads.

Don’t pick or squeeze!

If you are getting rid of blackheads you may think that the quickest, cheapest and easiest way is to squeeze them out but in fact you may make your problem worse – squeezing any kind of spot or pimple can cause increased inflammation, damage the skin and may result in infection and an even bigger unsightly blemish than you started with. Rather than squeezing you can try opening your pores with a hot towel placed on the area and then guide the blackhead out of the pore – if you do this gently and carefully you will avoid spreading the bacteria around; once you have finished with this process use an antibacterial cleanser to clean the whole area.

Prevention is always better

Instead of spending time getting rid of blackheads it is much better to spend time preventing them coming in the first place. Because blackheads are caused by the build-up of excess oil you should make sure that you use an appropriate cleanser as part of your daily skin care routine; a gentle exfoliator will help to slough off the dead skin cells and allow your skin to breathe freely by unblocking the pores. Always remove all your makeup before bed – and try to use less.

Choose your products wisely

If you are getting rid of blackheads you have probably seen the plethora of remedies available at the store. Including the little nose strips – these will work in the short term but should be part of your overall skin routine. There are also scrubs available which will help when exfoliating – care should be taken when using these in order to avoid inflaming your skin. Make sure y0u moisturize – if your skin becomes too dry more dead skin cells will be created and also more excess oil.

Whatever you do when getting rid of blackheads the important thing to remember is that gentleness is the key – if you poke, dig and prod your skin you will only make matters worse.

No such thing as an overnight cure

One thing is certain, getting rid of blackheads can be a lengthy process but if you eat a healthy and well balance diet, drink lots of fresh water and follow a daily gentle skin care routine you should find that you are successful in eliminating them from your skin. There are many products available on the market, including a wide choice of natural ones, find the one that works for you and use to regularly and you will soon have great looking blemish free skin.
