Do you Know the Signs of Pancreatic Cancer?
Do you suspect you may have pancreatic cancer. Interested in knowing about pancreatic cancer symptoms?
Pancreatic cancer is a deadly cancer and needs to be diagnosed as early as possible. It is found in both men and women and pancreatic cancer symptoms are generally the same for both sexes. However, the actual symptoms will vary depending on the location of the diseased cells and what stage of cancer you are in.
Pancreatic cancer symptoms are not very well seen in the early stage of cancer and this is true for both men and women. Symptoms only become apparent at a later stage however, the symptoms vary from one individual to another which makes this cancer difficult to test for. As the cancer progresses, one can observe jaundice, one may experience stomach and/or back pain, loss of weight along with a poor appetite and gastrointestinal problems.
About half of the individuals that have pancreatic cancer will have jaundice as one of several possible symptoms. Basically, you will see yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes. This happens because the pancreas is pressing against the bile duct so bile can’t pass into the intestine and pours into the vascular system. Bile has a yellow color to it imparting a yellow tinge to your skin and eyes where capillaries are close to the surface of the body. If the cancer originates in the head of the pancreas, bile duct compression may occur early on and and jaundice becomes evident at an earlier stage of the cancer. If the cancer cells are located in the tail or body of the pancreas, it will take time before the cells multiply, grow and spread before yellowing of the skin and eyes occurs. This will be seen in a later stage.
Abdominal and Back Pain
Pancreatic cancer symptoms also include abdominal and back pain that can be quite severe. Pain in these regions indicates advanced staged cancer. This tends to occur when the cancer cells start in the tail or body of the pancreas. As the cancer cells proliferate and grow in size, they press against internal organs causing pain.
Weight Loss and Gastrointestinal Problems
Furthermore, pancreatic cancer symptoms include loss of appetite with considerable loss of weight. Because of the loss of bile and pancreatic juices, further digestion in the small intestine tends to come to a halt producing fatty stools, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain especially after eating.
