Are you Familiar with the Basic Properties of Benzoyl Peroxide?

Most of us have used benzoyl peroxide at one time or another and quite often for acne. Do you know all the reasons why it is good for acne?

Benzoyl peroxide has many uses because it has a number of properties. These properties include: antibacterial, electron scavenger and inflammation inhibitor. And, of course one of its main applications is for the treatment of acne. Acne treatments require all 3 properties. Most acne products contain benzoyl peroxide and are found in liquid, cream, facial bars or gel forms. Usually the benzoyl peroxide concentration runs around 10 percent or less. When using these products make sure to test a small patch of skin to see if you have a reaction to it. Some people has sensitive skin and some may be allergic to it. Start with small amounts and use solutions that are far below the 10 percent concentration to make sure you don’t end of with a red irritated face.

Make sure you read the instructions well. Benzoyl peroxide is a very harsh chemical and needs to be taken seriously. Your first application may cause irritation and burning. If this persists seek medical attention. Keep your benzoyl peroxide treatment away from sensitive areas such as eyes, mouth or in the nostril area. Make sure you clean your face thoroughly before you apply your acne treatment and make sure you follow all instructions carefully. Acne can be embarrassing to you and in some cases debilitation depending on how serious it is. Don’t be tempted to keep applying over and over again. This will not help your problem but rather make it worse. When you begin a benzoyl peroxide treatment it should be used every other day or so until your skin gets used to it.

Given that benzoyl peroxide is harsh and is a peroxide it will tend to dry out your skin. It is not unusual for scales to form on your skin so you might need to consider a moisturizer. Make sure the moisturizer doesn’t contain and harsh ingredients in it. Use something like a cold cream or you could even us aloe vera. Aloe vera is very soothing to the skin and moisturizes well. If you continue to have problems it is best to discontinue use and talk to your healthcare provider for assistance.

This form of peroxide works well in the treatment acne so long as you are not sensitive or allergic to it. It works as an antiseptic, oxidizing agent and anti-inflammatory. Many people find that this chemical serves them well in getting rid of their acne problems.
