7 Natural Factors That Maintain Good Health

There are many natural factors that affect our health that are out of our control. You can’t do anything about the genes you inherited (not yet, anyway) or how polluted it is where you live. But there are seven natural factors that you can do something about in order to improve your health or maintain the good health you already have.

1: Everything in Moderation

Overindulging in food, drink, sex or laziness are natural factors that are destroying many people’s health. You need a wide variety of foods to get the nutrition you need without having to resort to supplements. This means not tipping your diet so that you are only eating one type of food. This also means limiting your alcohol consumption, mixing rest with activity and not trying to make love to anything that breathes.

2: Don’t Smoke

You shouldn’t smoke to excess and you shouldn’t smoke in moderation. You just shouldn’t smoke, period. Smoking negatively affects every part of your body. It slows your metabolism down, which makes it more difficult to lose weight. It hampers the immune system, making it more difficult for damaged cells to heal. You face so many hazards in life, from accidents to natural disasters. Why make things worse for yourself by smoking?

3: Learn How to Manage Your Stress

Many people manage their stress through eating unhealthy foods, smoking, drinking or abusing drugs. These substances may seem to help in the short term, but ultimately harms you far more than the original stress that you were trying to get rid of. Non-chemical ways to manage your stress include light exercise, writing in a journal, cleaning, meditating or petting a dog or cat. You may not be able to control all of the natural factors that give you stress, but you can control how you react to stress.

4: Connect with Others

It’s easy to isolate yourself from the rest of the world when you have a chronic medical condition or have just been diagnosed with a serious illness. But this is one of the worst things you can do. When you are alone, you can become obsessed with your problems because, when you are alone, you can’t get away from your problems. Give your mind a break from the cycle of negative thoughts by interacting with other people or with pets. This is one of the best natural factors you can control for your health.

5: Read Your Food Labels

Knowledge is power. Understand exactly what chemicals, additives, preservatives and nutrients you are eating. Take the time to read the ingredients labels of the foods you eat the most often. If you don’t understand why a certain chemical is in your food item, perhaps it’s best to switch to foods with less added ingredients. Better food choices are natural factors that can improve and lengthen your life.

6: Get A Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep helps the body repair itself. Most people are sleep deprived. This can lead to stress, accidents and illnesses. Invest in yourself by making sure you get enough sleep. Not all people need eight hours a night. Find out what works best for you. Keep to a sleep schedule to make it easier to fall asleep and get up the next day.

7: Have a Laugh

Life is serious business. But this doesn’t mean that you have to take everything so seriously. After all, at the end of the day, life is completely absurd. Everyone’s life will eventually end. So what? You still need to get through life. Taking time to laugh, watch comedians or read funny books will keep exercising your funny bone and help you keep your sense of humor.
